A Thought on Raga Svara
We build institutions. Sometimes I wonder why? The question whether it makes "business" sense does not appeal to me. I cannot think in traditional entrepreneurial terms (not proud of the fact). What we are making is a place of extraordinary experience. There are many mental frameworks that I use in thinking about the institutions that we build. One of the frameworks is prioritising LESS but GREAT over MORE and FLIMSY. Among the very few businessmen/entrepreneurs that I admire is Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia. My goal, like Chouinard, is to actively remain small but extremely high quality. The alternative (big and high quality) is almost always impossible.
The same is true for Raga. The amount of work that goes in to making this place and the experiences is incredible. Our goal at all costs is to ensure that you learn how to live better in the time that you spend here. Organizations like Raga are self limiting. The better we do our job the less you need to use it. All great organizations are self-limiting. I will not participate in the buy more, get more, do more race.
